Making Soft Pretzels From Scratch (1st try)

I rarely go to the mall, but when I do I always loved to get a giant soft pretzel as my afternoon snack. However, the last couple of times I did this, I found that I felt yucky afterward. The pretzel may have been delicious, but my body didn't appreciate all the fat and salt.

Recently, I noticed that one of my favorite blogs had a recipe for soft pretzels using sourdough discard. Since I happened to have a jar of discard almost ready to overflow, I decided to give the recipe a try. At this point, I couldn't remember the last time I had a soft pretzel, so my mouth was immediately watering.

Watch Me Make It

The Original Recipe

You can find the original recipe blog post HERE. I have to say, mine did not come out as good as I had hoped. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious...they just weren't exactly what I consider a pretzel. Mine really just felt like a weirdly shaped dense roll.

I don't know if the recipe itself is slightly flawed, if I just didn't execute it quite right, or if you can even make soft pretzels at home that come out like a less oily version of a mall pretzel.

Again, mine were yummy! We scarfed them down in a couple of days. They just weren't quite what I was hoping for.

I have found another recipe to try, and once I do, I will share that experience HERE on my blog and on my YouTube channel.

Stay tuned.
