Making Dinner Rolls | From Scratch

Welcome to my Blog and YouTube series called 'From Scratch'. While I do a ton of from-scratch meals, in this series my focus is on making items most people would buy at the store. Instead of meals, these are more like ingredients or items people don't usually make at home. I plan to post at least one new 'From Scratch' blog/video per month, so be sure you are subscribed so you never miss out!
Today I'm sharing a recipe for dinner rolls. You can buy those soft, pillowy dinner rolls at the store, but have you ever looked at the ingredient list? Instead, maybe give this recipe a try. It makes 24 rolls, so you can always freeze some for a future dinner!

Dinner Rolls
This recipe uses ingredients you likely have in your pantry. Okay, if you don't make much bread at home, you might not have yeast. But maybe after you make these rolls, you will decide you are a breadmaker and start keeping it in your pantry.
Ingredients
4 1/2 cups All-Purpose flour (about)
2 TBSP yeast
1/3 c sugar
1 tsp salt (don't skimp on the salt)
1 1/2 cups warm milk
5 TBSP butter, softened
1 egg
2 TBSP butter, melted

Preparation
In the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk together warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
Add in 3 cups of flour, softened butter, and egg. Using the dough hook attachment, blend on low speed until combined, scraping the edges as needed.
Add the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time, allowing it to fully incorporate before adding more.
Mix at medium speed for 2-3 minutes. Add a little more flour if the dough seems overly sticky.
Pull the dough out of the bowl and form it into a ball with your hands.
Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a wet towel and allow to rise in a warm place for at least 30 minutes (until doubled in size).
Transfer the dough to a flour-covered counter. Divide the dough into 24 even pieces.
Shape each piece into a ball, making a smooth top and pinching the bottom. Place in an oiled 9x13 pan.
Cover the pan with a wet towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375F. Bake the rolls for 15-17 minutes. The baking time will vary depending on your oven, so check them after 13 minutes.
Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with the melted butter.
Notes
If rolls start browning too fast, lightly cover them with aluminum foil.
Store rolls at room temperature (in air tight container) for 3-4 days.
To freeze rolls, wrap tightly in aluminum foil, then in plastic wrap, and finally in an airtight freezer container or a freezer zip-lock bag. Thaw at room temperature.
Best served warm. To reheat, wrap in aluminum foil and place in 300F oven for 10 minutes, or until warm.
Serve with soft butter.
Or, for a delicious snack, serve warm with peanut butter and jelly.
