Honey Onion Cough Syrup

Honey-Onion cough syrup is an easy-to-make herbal remedy perfect for treating any cough. Whether the cough is due to a cold, allergies, or a dry climate, this syrup is both soothing and delicious.

Two Simple Ingredients

Onion - slice thin, then chop into smaller pieces. Cook in a bit of water (less than 1/4 cup) until soft.

Honey - local, raw honey.

The Benefits

You may not realize this, but both honey and onion have health benefits.

Onion

  • Contains a good amount of Vitamin C, which is great for our immune system.

  • Antioxidant - which means onions help prevent cellular damage, which in turn helps prevent cancer, heart disease and some cancers.

  • Antibacterial - which speaks for itself.

  • Prebiotic fiber - this keeps our gut bacteria happy. Most of our digestion and immunity are due to these little guys, so feed them well and keep them happy!

Honey

  • Nutrients galore - raw honey is packed with vitamins and minerals.

  • Packed with enzymes that help us digest our foods and detoxify our bodies.

Note: High heat will break down enzymes, which is why we process this syrup at a low, warm heat vs cooking it over high heat.

  • Antioxidant - same benefits as onions.

  • Antimicrobial - which kills what ails you and helps in the healing process.

  • Soothing - not only is it soothing to a sore throat, but its anti-inflammatory properties help the whole body feel better.
