5 Ways to Have a Stress-Free Holiday

Happy holidays and welcome to the most stressful time of the year! If you sometimes feel overwhelmed and stressed during this time of the year, keep reading.

Watch Me Talk About It Here

Set Your Priorities

Take some time to consider your priorities for this time of year.  We simply can NOT do it all.  We need to evaluate what is important so we can focus on those activities and say no to the things that don’t make this list.  Some of my priorities are creating a cozy holiday environment by adding holiday decor and candles throughout my home, and spending cozy evenings watching Christmas movies.  I do NOT prioritize gift giving.  We do very little in the lines of gifts anymore.

Don't Forget Self-Care

When you’re busy and you feel like there is too much to do it's easy to forget to take care of ourselves. However, when you are going through a busy stressful time, the best thing you can do for yourself is to be sure you are eating well, getting a little exercise, going to bed at a decent hour, and no matter how busy you are, set aside a few minutes every day to sit in meditation.  If you don’t like the word meditation, if it feels too woo-woo for you, simply think of it as taking a moment to catch your breath, a moment of calm, a moment to de-stress.  It doesn’t have to be a big deal, simply sit, take 5 slow deep breaths, then move on with your day.

Respect Your Budget

We’ve all let the festive season lead us to throw common sense to the wind and make a big purchase that we can’t afford. So this year I invite you to be realistic. Keep presents small and only for the children.  Rethink buying a new outfit for the holiday party. Celebrate with friends at home rather than going out to a restaurant.

I promise you can have fun, you can celebrate, AND you can do it without breaking the bank.

Don't Over Schedule

Take a realistic look at your calendar. Make sure there is white space, meaning unscheduled time. It is okay to say no, even if it's an invite from a friend. It is okay to cancel plans if you realize you have too much scheduled. It is okay to drop an old tradition you no longer enjoy. You have permission.

Ask For Help

Lastly, don’t try to do it all yourself.  Whether you are hosting a gathering, wrapping presents, or addressing Christmas cards, ask a family member or friend for a little help.

Lastly...

No matter what holiday you celebrate this time of year, please take care of yourself, slow down, and enjoy yourself.

XO,

Tracy
