There are so many ways to incorporate twists into our yoga practice. However, if you don't do yoga, but still want to increase your flexibility, you can easily add a couple of simple twists into your day.
The Benefits of a Simple Twist
When we twist the body, we squeeze our internal organs and stretch the muscles that support the spine. These simple actions have many benefits to the body, in addition to also calming the mind and reducing anxiety.
Creates flexibility in the spine.

Relax Into It
To get the most benefit from this pose simply close your eyes and relax. Relax your shoulders and release any tension in your face. Release any tension in your belly. The more you relax, the easier your body is able to twist. Gently hold the twist for several breaths before releasing and twisting to the other side.
Twists in a Chair
Sit in a chair with your feet on the floor and your knees out wide. Place your left hand on your right knee and your right hand on your right hip. As you exhale, twist to look over your right shoulder. Then repeat on the other side.
Sit in a chair with your left foot on the floor and your right ankle on your left knee (like a seated figure-4 stretch). Place your left hand on your right knee and your right hand on your right hip. As you exhale, twist to look over your right shoulder. Then repeat on the other side.
